Frequently asked questions

What can I expect in a session?

This varies for everyone! Some people will come for specific concerns and some will come for just overall guidance through a life transition. Both are equally as important and using a client centered approach, I will help you address these issues and tailor them to specifically what you are needing. Intake sessions usually last 60 minutes and individual sessions will last 50-60 minutes! I strive to provide an inviting, relaxed and comfortable environment for each client to best address first session anxiety and help you feel more at ease. I will always have prompting questions in the event that you are uncomfortable talking or don’t know where to start. Together, we can best collaborate and make the best decisions on what’s going to be the most optimal treatment approach just for you!

What kind of issues do you treat?

I specialize in complex trauma and PTSD and first responders and veterans, using several different approaches. I also work with depression, anxiety, life transitions, domestic and sexual abuse, legal issues, addiction and personality disorders.

Do I have to come in person or can I still see you if I’m not in the area?

In person sessions at my office are always an option, however, I have completed training and certification for technology assisted counseling and can provide services to anyone statewide in Arkansas and Missouri.

Do you take insurance?

Yes! I do not accept Medicaid or Medicare, however, I do accept BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, Ambetter, Cigna and Evernorth, Federal BCBS, Health Advantage, New Directions | Lucet, Optum, QualChoice, SWEAP, Tricare, UMR, UnitedHealthcare UHC | UBH and Out of Network provided with a superbill.

What if I don’t have insurance, can I still see you?

Absolutely! I will always provide you with a Good Faith Estimate to assure that you never have any surprise charges and know exactly what services you are paying for and what the cost is. I also accept cash pay through American Express, Visa, Cash, Check, Discover, Visa, FSA/HSA and Mastercard.

Good Faith Estimates are required by law, stating, “If you don’t have health insurance or you plan to pay for health care bills yourself, generally, health care providers and facilities must give you an estimate of expected charges when you schedule an appointment for a health care item or service, or if you ask for an estimate. This is called a ‘good faith estimate.’ A good faith estimate isn’t a bill. The good faith estimate shows the list of expected charges for items or services from your provider or facility. Because the good faith estimate is based on information known at the time your provider or facility creates the estimate, it won’t include any unknown or unexpected costs that may be added during your treatment.”

Do you prescribe medications or conduct psychological evaluations?

No, I am not a psychologist or a medical doctor and both are are outside my scope of practice. I do work with a wide array of professionals and I can always help you find an appropriate referral with a provider that would be a good fit for you.

What if I don’t want anyone else to have my information, especially my job?

This is something I take very seriously at all times in my office. All client information remains confidential unless I am mandated by law or under a court order. I will always do my best to prevent anyone from getting your direct information and exhaust every possible avenue to protect the integrity of your therapy. Arkansas and Missouri State law both mandate that I report suspected child and elder abuse and if you have intent to harm yourself or someone else.

What if I have a scheduling conflict come up and need to cancel my appointment?

In the event you need to cancel and/or reschedule your appointment, please contact me at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. All clients will be charged a $75 fee per session that they fail to show up for. The no-show/cancellation fee is charged regardless of the reason (outside of immediate emergency with documentation and inclement weather) for your no show, later arrival or late cancellation. If you have cancelled or missed 3 consecutive sessions in a row or have not responded to reschedule within a reasonable time, I reserve the right to discontinue your recurring appointments and give that time slot to other clients or discharge and provide appropriate referrals.

What do I do if I need you after hours or in the event of an emergency?

If you need to contact me between sessions, I prefer to be contacted via email, however, you can also leave a message at my office, understanding that I do not provide emergency services. I will return your call or email within 24-48 business hours. If an emergency situation arises, please call 911, 988, or present to your nearest emergency room. If you do present to an emergency room or other residential treatment facility, I ask that you complete appropriate release of information and have your records faxed to my office.
